Clinical Psychologist or Counselling Psychologist Job Vacancy
We are looking for a Clinical Psychologist or a Counselling Psychologist who has experience working with children and adolescents, particularly those that have experienced a high degree of disadvantage in their early lives.
We are looking for a passionate and dedicated Clinical Psychologist with experience working with children and adolescents, and a strong desire to make a meaningful, lasting impact on their lives. As part of a supportive and enthusiastic team of Clinical Psychologists, Psychological Therapists, and Assistant Psychologists, you’ll play a key role in providing assessments of therapeutic and placement needs, delivering direct therapeutic interventions to children and young people, and offering consultation and training to parents, carers, and residential care staff.
You will also have the opportunity to contribute to Autism assessments, expanding your expertise and influence.
Experience with adoptive families, children in foster care, or those in residential care is highly desirable, as is training in trauma-informed therapies such as DDP, Theraplay, or EMDR. This is an exciting opportunity to join a collaborative team where your work will have a direct and lasting impact on vulnerable children and young people.
This is a preceptorship position with a view to progressing towards Band 8a equivalent position. Support will be provided in facilitating this progression.

About the job:
Job type: Full-time (a part-time position could be available on negotiation).
Working pattern: 37.5 hours per week, typically from 9am-5pm on Monday to Friday.
Salary: £46 500 – £60 500 (pro-rata if part-time). Negotiable depending on experience.
Band: NHS AfC Band 7-8a equivalent (although we do not band roles here at Gateway Psychology).
Specialism: Children, young people and families.
Reporting to: Clinical Director or designate.
Location: Gateway Psychology, 7-9 The Boulevard, Tunstall, Stoke-on-Trent, ST6 6BD. Some travel will be required depending on client and business requirements.
About the overall role:
- Assesses & treats own caseload of clients & maintains associated records
- Provides, develops and manages highly specialist interventions
- Clinically supervises less experienced psychologists, psychological therapists, assistant(s), trainee(s)
- Co-ordinates provision of specialist service; provides specialist advice to other professions and carers
- Contributes to service development, specifically children’s residential care support service.
- Assists in the overall day-to-day running and management of the company under the guidance of the Clinical Director or Clinical Lead
